Burton Albion Ladies were victim to a 3-0 loss against league leader Lougborough Foxes.
A hat-trick from Charlotte Coops was enough to see off Jack White’s team, which sees them without a win in the new year.
Lily Cocking made her first team debut after being promoted from the reserves in an injury hit Brewers side.
The striker started alongside Jordan Atkin, who combined for the first chance of the game in the opening ten minutes. Cocking controlled the ball well from a throw-in, spinning past the defender before playing a lovely ball to Atkin. The top goal scorer made her way into the penalty box, but her shot was saved.
On a tough playing surface, that had been hit by snow pre-match, both teams were struggling to keep hold of the ball.
There were chances for Natasha Rothery and Jemma Grimadell to put the Brewers in front, but it was Loughborough who took the lead in the 25th minute.
They took the lead into half-time, where Burton made a substitution. Goalkeeper Erica Turner was replaced by Victoria Wilsoncroft – also making her first senior team appearance this season.
She was called into action straight away, but saved comfortably to deny the Foxes a second.
The Brewers began to put pressure on the opposition, with a quick succession of corners and efforts from Danielle Reade and Rothery once again.
But they were punished for their lack of clinical nature in front of goal, as two goal in four minutes buried the Brewers and succumbed them to their third loss of 2018.
They face Rotherham United in next week’s fixture, as they look to climb back up the table.
