Run for Fun

East Staffordshire Borough Council, Staffordshire Athletic Network and The Washlands Women Runners are working in Partnership, with thanks to funding from the East Staffordshire Locality Strategic Partnership to organise a Beginners Running Course.

The group will meet every Wednesday at The Workout Gym, Wetmore Road, Burton upon Trent, DE14 1SP, at 7.30 pm. The ten week Running Course will start on Wednesday 27th April 2016.Participants will need to join UK Athletics with a one off cost of £13, plus £1.00 weekly.

The Running Course will give local women and girls an opportunity to start as beginners with walking and become confident runners at the end. Once the course is completed, participants will have the opportunity to join the Washlands Women Runners group or Burton Athletic Club.

Qualified Leaders in Running Fitness will lead the sessions, providing support and encouragement to participant’s so they run to the best of their ability. The sessions are open to females over 16 years.

The project Run England is the Official England Athletics Recreational Running programme, which aims to get the whole nation running. The project will target people who are currently inactive or returning from injury to become recreational runners.

A Council spokesperson said, “The running programme is a great opportunity for people wanting to get fit. The running group will provide a supportive and motivating environment for beginners. ”

It is recommended that adults should be physically active for a minimum of 150 minutes a week, which could be 30 minutes 5 times a week. Running or walking once a week will count towards this target.
