Tom Flanagan Signs New Brewers Deal

DEFENDER Tom Flanagan has signed a new two-year deal with Burton Albion.

The Northern Ireland international’s contract ran out this summer but the 25-year-old has now agreed terms with the Brewers after initially deciding not to accept a new contract offer.

Flanagan originally joined the Brewers from MK Dons in 2015 and became a key part of Nigel Clough’s defensive unit last season.

The Brewers boss said that he was pleased that Flanagan had changed his mind about signing a new deal Clough said: “Tom made a misjudgement and we are willing to overlook that. It was a few weeks ago and we now want to put that behind us and we look forward to him playing again for us this season
“He’s a current international who covers us all the way across the back four. It would be very hard for us to sign another international defender on a free transfer. I’m sure the players will give him a bit of stick early on but then everyone will move on.”

Flanagan said: “I had a change of heart and I’m regretful it has taken me this long. I had some bad advice but now I want to move on and get back to playing football for Burton Albion.
“I want to thank the manager for his patience and understanding and I hope that the fans will also welcome me back and understand that I have and always will give everything for Burton Albion.”
